Supercharged tuning

On the theme of keeping things simple we will break this down into "stages". Yes some of the internet will roast you for mentioning staged tuning but it just makes things a little easier to understand. You can't compare one tuners stage to another that is the only important thing to remember here.

Stage 1 - 260bhp for the road - around £6000

As simple as it can get, take a completely stock car and add a HKS supercharger. You will have no problem with noise or MOTs as you will keep the catted front pipe and standard catted manifold, the car will almost sound standard! This will net you around 260bhp with a very linear power delivery, the best way to describe it is the engine just feels bigger, it feels like you are driving a 3.0 naturally aspirated car rather than a 2.0 the more you rev it the more eager it is. Nice and safe on the standard engine, as long as you service it and keep it cool it will last forever like this, very predictable on track as every time you go on throttle the torque delivery is exactly the same as last time you went on throttle so its a very easy car to learn on track or fast road driving. You do not get a traditional supercharger whine on any of these kits but you will have a lot of fun!

All in, drive in, drive out with an oil change to 0w30 and fresh coolant the cost would be £6027.87. We would need at least 1 months notice for booking to get all the parts in and make sure there is time in the workshop calendar. We would need to keep the car for 1 week to complete all of the work and tune the car so arrange either a place to stay or getting home and back to collect the car. Ideally drop off on a Monday morning and collect Friday afternoon.

Stage 2 - 280bhp for the track or road - around £7500

Take everything from stage 1 and add an oil cooler, uprated clutch, a free flowing exhaust and open up the restrictor on the supercharger slightly. This adds 20bhp to the topline figure, adds some reliability by keeping the oil much cooler on track but retaining the standard exhaust manifold and front pipe to keep the noise down for easily passing trackday noise limits and MOTs as you are retaining both cats. We add an uprated clutch for reliability. Only using an organic stage 1 so it doesn't feel heavy, you could barely tell its not stock. This setup is perfectly reliable on a standard engine and again with regular servicing it will live forever.

All in drive in drive out with an oil change to 0w30 and fresh coolant the cost would be £7624.27.

Stage 3 - 280 - 300bhp Track and road - Almost £10,000

Everything in stage 2 but add a nice long tube manifold, over pipe, decat front pipe and open the supercharger restrictor up a little further for a little more boost. This is starting to push the reliability of the stock engine, we still have several cars in this setup that have done 10s of thousands of miles without issue but if reliability is your MAIN concern you should stick to stage 2 in our opinion. Adding the decat manifold and front pipe with a supercharger will dramatically increase the noise and you will only get on tracks with a 102db+ noise limit and you may find it a little uncomfortable and boomy for road use. You can make it quiet enough but it will require some custom exhaust work with helmholtz silencers and larger resonators as nothing off the shelf will be quiet enough to get onto sub 100db tracks.

All in, drive in, drive out with an oil change to 0w30 and fresh coolant the cost would be £9823.87. We would need at least 1-2 months notice for booking to get all the parts in and make sure there is time in the workshop calendar. We would need to keep the car for 1 week to complete all of the work and tune the car so arrange either a place to stay or getting home and back to collect the car. Ideally drop off on a Monday morning and collect Friday afternoon.

Stage 4 - 360bhp maxed out supercharger - £10,000+

At this stage you have come to the end of the limits of the standard conrods and the fuelling system. At this power level you are throwing the supercharger restrictor away and you want a built engine with oiling modifications to withstand the extra power. Good news though you don't need to go too wild as the majority of the standard engine can take far more power than the HKS supercharger can produce, you just need a light engine build that won't require you to treat your car like its a fragile race car. You can still drive the car as normal in daily use if you want to without extended warm up and cool down periods! We have developed a fantastic "rod only" engine package that we have personally tested to 500bhp but we comfortably rate at 400bhp for ultimate reliability. Fuelling upgrades

£596.76

You will want to add either stage 2 or stage 3 supercharging costs to your selected engine build cost and fuelling upgrades above to get the final price. For this we would need at least 2 months notice to get all of the parts together and would need to keep the car for an absolute minimum of 2 weeks.
